6th Grade Physical Science (S1: Waves E1: Battle Rope)
S1E1: BATTLE ROPE CONTENTS
MISSION OBJECTIVES
At the end of this mission crew mates will be able to demonstrate the power of the dark side, I mean demonstrate the power of mind maps, to help them think, collect, organize, remember and create ideas.
By the time we sing the Granger-2 band’s song “25 Mind Maps or More” band mates will identify examples of waves, including waves they can see, hear, and feel, wave properties, wave types, and tech that utilizes waves.
BASIC THEORY
A mind map is a graphical way to represent ideas and concepts. It is a visual thinking tool that helps structure information to better analyze, comprehend, synthesize, recall and generate new ideas.
An inertia damper is a device that counters the effects of inertia and other forces and motion. On the Granger-2, similar to Star Trek’s Enterprise, it’s used to counter the effects of rapid acceleration and deceleration.
A wave is a disturbance in some thing, it’s not the thing being disturbed.

RESEARCH
Check out one or more of Prof E’s favorite TV shows and movies mentioned in this lesson, including Knight Rider, Quantum Leap, The A-team, Happy Days, Dr. Who, Star Trek. Star Wars, and Back to the Future.
Check out the poem from which our loveable and remarkably bright border collie Atmo got her name. It’s called “Man’s View from Inside a Campfire Marshmallow”. It’s really, really hard to find.
Check out one or more of Prof E’s favorite books mentioned in this lesson, including A Wrinkle in Time, Ready Player One (read the book it’s way better than the movie), and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
Check out Schoolhouse Rock! songs, especially “Three is a Magic Number”, and “My Hero, Zero”. And, be sure to check out Chicago’s “25 or 6 to 4.”
Choose any of the topics from KB-23’s Wonder Time and research it further like, Haptics, Ultrasound, LIGO, Electrogmagnetic Waves and more.
Learn more about using mind maps and start using them during your note taking and studies. Build your own mind palace.
S1:E1 BATTLE ROPE CONTENTS BY SECTION
COMIC INTRO
See the Granger-2 crew as they drop down from low Earth orbit in what KB-23 calls the “Fiery Descent of Death”, to attend the Science-lete Games Battle Rope Wave Competition.
KB-23’s WONDER TIME
What is a deorbit burn? What’s a battle rope? Is there gravity in space? What do mind maps, waves and battle ropes have in common? Wonder with KB-23.
PROF E’s LEARNING TIME
Learn to use the power of mind maps and demonstrate their power.
Just what can you make from a rope? You’d be surprised.
K-2L5’s PRACTICE TIME
Choose your character and take part in a skit as you practice using mind maps through several exercises.
MISS TONKS’ SHOW ME TIME
Show Miss Tonks what you’ve learned. Take her challenge if you dare, and complete a new wave mind map.
L.E.’s REFLECTION TIME
Take a breather. You’ve earned it. Join L.E. for some quite reflection time in the ship’s holo space. Jot down your thoughts from this lesson.
GRANGER-2 BAND’s VOCAB TO LYRICS
Record definitions for all the new terminology you’ve learned. Look at the Granger-2 song in Atmo’s answers and see if you can develop something similar. It really helps with remembering and recalling new things.
ATMO’s ANSWERS
Sit down with Atmo and get a dog’s perspective on the day’s events. Snuggle up as she reviews answers to Miss Tonks’ Show Me Time questions.
RAINBOW FIVE’s SNEAK PREVIEW
Catch a glipse of what’s coming next from the ship’s holo betta fish Rainbow Five. Endure some fintastic puns. Try out some of her bonus material.
Two separate formats are included.
The "Spread" version shows what the lesson would look like if presented in comic book format, one two-page 11 x 17 spread at a time. It's great for displaying electronically, or for printing full two page spreads on 11 x 17 paper.
The "non-spread" version depicts each page on 8.5 x 11. It's great for printing back to back pages which will then allow the story to unfold like turning pages in a book.
